Bonafide’s Margery Bone presented the Television Drama Award

Taiba Amla has been announced as the winner of the Channel 4/Northumbria University Writing for Television Awards – Television Drama prize at the Northern Writers’ Awards 2018. The prize was presented by Margery Bone at the Awards Ceremony which took place at The Sutherland Building, Newcastle on Tuesday Night.

Bone said of the award:

We’re delighted to be taking part in New Writing North and Channel 4’s TV drama award scheme for the second year.  It’s integral for our industry to find and support new and distinctive voices and we at Bonafide are excited by this opportunity.

Taiba was selected from hundreds of submissions, for her TV script entitled P.O.E.T.S. As part of the prize Taiba will receive mentorship from Bonafide, as well a £3,000 bursary. Awards were also given out for poetry, literature and young adult & children’s fiction by Northern writers at the event.

This is the second year that Bonafide has supported the New Writing North scheme, having mentored Alex Clarke, the recipient of the 2017 award. During the ceremony on Tuesday it was announced that Channel 4 has commissioned the script that was developed by Alex as part of the scheme.
